CC Week 3 & Loving It!

Today was Week 3 of Classical Conversations, or CC for short.

So far, we LOVE the program

and it proves to be a great fit for our family.

The material the kids memorize each week is impressive

but we have so much fun doing our studies each day.

Addie Grace has proven she can hang with the big kids

and has learned EVERY BIT of the material

along with Crista.

We choose to do a one-room school house approach

with the girls

on our non-CC days.

Crista and Addie Grace love schooling together

and they're each learning so much

and solidifying their friendship

that will take them into their adult years.

I'm so thankful for that!!

 

Here's a typical day at CC:

They start off going over all of the new material.

The tutor does a variety of repetitive games or songs

to introduce the new memory work for the week.

 

 

 The kids then do a hands-on science experiment.

Today they were to determine why Saturn can be seen through its rings.

Science time is always lots of fun!

 

 

When they return from their science experiment,

they have a snack while they practice their

oral presentation skills.

Its basically like a show-and-tell

but the children are encouraged to speak loudly, make eye contact,

and answer questions about their presentations at the end.

Crista brought in her incredibly awesome PINK soccer ball today.!

 Then its on to Fine Arts.

Today they reviewed Mirror Images

and then moved along to Upside-down images.

There's always lots of chattering during the art session.

The children are so sweet and I hear lots of

"That's pretty!"

or "You can really draw well!"

The kids are so encouraging to one another.

 

 

During class, the tutor, Mrs Julie

encourages good behavior

and good listening with trips to the

 treasure box.

 

At the end of class

the children play games

to review the previous week's memory work.

Today they played Hot Lemon.

Its case you're wondering,

its just like Hot Potato...but with a plastic lemon :-)

 

Once class is dismissed,

we meet up with all the other CC families

and we all have a picnic lunch together.

And directly after that...the kids hit the playground!

Crista has already made new friends

and they look forward to this freedom

all morning.

 

 

And in case you were wondering,

Addie Grace loves her "nursery class"!

Her "teacher" is Mrs Jackie

and she has made a new friend in her class too.

But after lunch,

she's just one of the "big" girls

and tries to keep up with Crista and her friends.

So far,

homeschool has the best experience for all of us.

It has proved to be the greatest decision for our family

at this time in our lives.

I'm so thankful we're able to homeschool and be apart of

a wonderful homeschooling community!
